Art Background in Child Development:
My experience with children began in 1983 where I began my teaching in different workshops in Argentina (Media Luna, Elementary School of Juan Zorrilla). I began to develop different techniques in the art field such as "pintura de cavallete" - traditional painting, painting outdoors, clay modeling, papier mache modeling. At the end of these workshops resulted in the construction of puppets where in they would apply their knowledge of color, clothing and the modeling of the figures ensemble. The children would also create a script for the stories that accompanied the puppets and performance in a theater piece. This is the focus of my work in relation to children.
I have also developed an interactive toy by the name of Mariela. This is a story where the children had to visualize and construct with the different images in the wooden blocks which would rotate on all four angles. This would require their participation through a dynamic perspective and allow them to creatively use their imagination. Presently as an artist in plastic arts I have developed projects privately and publicly (murals for the public school system: Grant Elementary School in Santa Monica) This last project consisted of a 5 part mural based on a story that I wrote: The Magical Flight. I have also participated in the restoration murals in East Los Angeles (Labor Solidarity has no Borders- Mike Alewitz) and Downtown (The birth of the Philipine culture). Multimedia shows: "Hierophant" which consisted of a 7ft totem (papier mache), multiple wooden totems. (Art Brewery of Downtown) Art exhibitions of acrylic on canvas: Frida Kahlo Museum, Long Beach Latino Museum, Bergamot Station.
My last art exhibit (El Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Buenos Aires) had the conceptual and artistic vision of a Pre-Columbian culture in which consisted of extensive researched material relating to it. The Pre-Columbian Culture envelops many treasures to be discovered. I would gladly participate in your project at Community Magnet School since I consider it a possibility of another tool of knowledge in the Arts and the intercommunication between children and adults of another important culture.
Thank you,
Ana Brinks
